Input material was gathered in Berlin – these pictures were taken during the research phase of this project. Analysis of particular urban phenomenon that are unique for Berlin revealed conceptual guidelines. Spacial qualities and emotional charge were extracted from German capital and taken to the centre of student town of Tilburg. All for the sake of making the experience of urban space provocative and striking. Input-output framework established by Sang Lee and Thomas Wensing, had its focus on the transformations of conceptual elements through design process.
Elevations
Final idea of the building inherited three devices – grid, linearity and reflection. All them were applied together with spacial qualities of the context leading to particular architectural language. Maintaining design execution through perceivable scales from urban level to construction details makes an alien looking building integral part of the public space experience.
Model
Gallery of street arts has been designed as an assignment at Fontys Academy of Architecture and Urbanism in Tilburg. It was a second part of the first year curriculum for master students. The first part consisted of initial exercises and analysis of design framework. Mentors – Sang Lee and Thomas Wensing.
